The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild relies on its artist members and community supporters to continue promoting fine arts and crafts in the Triangle.

Provisional Exhibitor Membership
Eligibility:
Craft media represented include: Clay, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Metal, Wood, Furniture, Work on Paper and Mixed Media. All work must be original and made by hand. Selection is based on creativity and excellence in design and technique in traditional and contemporary crafts. Designer Craftsmen are those who have perfected their craft with a mastery of technique and with originality of design. The body of work should demonstrate the artist's vision, and when viewed as a whole should be seen as more than the sum of its parts.
Not eligible: Painting, commercial photography or reproductions are not eligible. Neither are objects made from kits, imported, commercially manufactured, cast from commercial molds, embellished (painted boxes, china, furniture, ready-made clothing) nor preserved natural objects (rocks, driftwood, shells, wildlife).
Applying:
Applications are taken January 1st through May 1st. To jury for Exhibiting Membership, submit a CD with 6 Digital Images (JPEG or TIF format) of your work. Five of the Digital Images should depict a representation of your current work, not made under supervision, of the type that you plan to exhibit at the CDC Fair. Your Digital Images should show mastery of technique, and cohesiveness of design and intent; each piece should be recognizable as a particular craftsperson's work, exhibiting creativity and originality. The 6th Digital Image should be a booth display that depicts your current body of work professionally displayed for exhibition and sale. Please note: Slides are no longer being accepted.
Digital Images should be in color and should be in JPEG or TIF format with a resolution of 300dpi 1920 x 1920. Images should be no older than three years old. Images should be crisp, with accurate color and of professional quality. The CD with Digital Images should be labeled with name of applicant and the Digital Image names on the CD should correspond with the description accompanying the application form. Incomplete applications will be returned.
If an applicant wishes to apply in two media, two separate applications, each with 6 Digital Images and $25.00 screening fee, are required. Applicants may apply for a group membership, which would entitle them to one booth at the fair in which they may show the work of more than one artist. If applicants wish to apply for a group membership, they must submit at least five Digital Images of the work of each group member, as well as a booth Image. Only the artists passing the jury will be offered a provisional membership.
Applicants passing the Image screening will be asked to exhibit within the next two (2) years at the annual Carolina Designer Craftsmen Fair held Thanksgiving weekend. Your work, as well as presentation of the work, will be evaluated at that time. Those applicants passing this jury will become Exhibiting Members of Carolina Designer Craftsmen. Exhibiting member dues are $35.00 annually, payable upon acceptance into Carolina Designer Craftsmen.
What to send:
1. A completed application form with a non-refundable fee of $25.00 for each category, to be received by May 1st.
2. 6 Digital Images on CD which includes 1 booth Image, as described in the application section. Please Note: Slides are no longer being accepted.
3. Optional: Include a stamped, self-addressed postcard if you wish to be notified that your application has been received.
